How To Configure a Static IP Address in Windows Vista

A couple years ago I posted a how to guide on Train Signal Training about how to configure a static IP address in Windows Vista. During my beta testing of Vista I found that the way to get into configuring the IP address had changed quite a bit so I decided that it’d be a helpful tool to educate other admins and power users.
Well, I could have never expected the response. The post has been one of our top 5 articles still to this day 2 1/2 years later. A couple of visitors asked to see a video of the configuration so I’ve gone ahead and posted a video that will walk you through. If you want to see the whole post check it out at

Game 5 Prediction: Freak Chopstick Accident Brings Bobby Hull Out of Retirement

ChopsticksIt’s become a pregame ritual for many of the members of Chicago Blackhawks to enjoy a pregame meal at Sushi Wabi in Chicago’s West Loop. Unfortunately, tragedy struck Saturday’s meal as all four left wingers for Chicago were injured in what some are calling the most gruesome chopstick accident of all time. Details are still being ironed out at this time, but it is believed that Ben Eager, Andrew Ladd, Patrick Sharp, and Kris Versteeg were all injured when one of the players chopsticks suddenly splintered injuring all around the epicenter of the accident. [Note: Earlier reports of Kris Versteeg singing with the chopstick just prior to the incident seem to be fabricated by witnesses.]

The events of the day would have been even more tragic had it not been for Coach Quenneville, Rocky Wirtz, and Dale Tallon’s quick thinking. With the teams entire offensive left side out for the vital Game 5 against Calgary they were in need of a miracle. The three headmen contacted Bobby Hull who was in the house expecting to be a spectator that evening. After a few minutes of contract disputes, the Blackhawks were able to agree on a one day contract with the Hall of Fame Left Winger.

No one could have expected what came next. The legendary winger stepped on the ice to become the oldest player in NHL history at a youthful 70 years of age. Riding the emotion and miraculous performance by The Golden Jet the Blackhawks were able to stand victorious 4-2 and take a 3-2 series lead. With only 17 seconds left Hull netted his second goal of the night in the Calagary net which had been vacated by Kiprusoff for an extra attacker only seconds before. Hull’s box score was as follows: 53 mins, 2G, 2A, 1- 5 minute fighting penalty, and 1 TKO.

The highlight of the night may have come when he circled off against the Flames’ Cammalleri who had garnered Hull’s attention with a cheap shot on Chicago’s Martin Havlat in Game 1 of the series. Jockeying for position at first the two ended up trading blow for blow until Cammalleri ducked into Hull’s Right Uppercut knocking Cammalleri unconsious. Cammalleri missed the remainder of the 3rd period and his status is unknown for the rest of the series.

show_imagephpWhen asked why he didn’t play for 1 minute in the first period and one in the second, Hull responded, “I was Tweeting updates to @NHLBlackhawks. If Oprah can do this whole twitter thing so can I.”

During the post game interview with Sarah Spain of Mouthpiece Sports all Bobby could say is “Are you still f@#%ing Steve Bartman?

During this wondrous night for the first time since it’s construction the United Center’s rafters shuttered like the old Chicago Stadium. The crowd stood for the entire game not letting up even during intermissions and breaks. The once boisterous horn was but a quaint whisper on this night under the deafening roar as Chicago celebrated each goal. The whole night was that of biblical proportions and I’m sure all who were there to witness such greatness will continue to tell the story of the Golden Jet’s return for generations to come.

Staying consistent with team policies, specifics of the injuries are not being discussed with the media; however, all 4 players are expected to be available for Game 6 in Calgary on Tuesday.

New Trainsignal.com launched and New Website Theme

Computer Training from Train Signal

It’s been a long time coming. After over a year of research, development, sweat and tears the new site at trainsignal.com is live. This site is much different from the previous site that existed on Monster Commerce. With the completion of the Train Signal website I had a moment to spare and refocus on gary.eimerman.com a little and hence the new theme.

MC was a good choice for our shopping cart 3 years ago, but with the growth that we’ve experienced and customization that desire at Train Signal combine with the poor support and treatment we received from Network Solutions (bought Monster Commerce while we were on the platform) it was time for a change. A great deal has changed with the site…where to start???

The biggest change was our platform. We’ve moved from MC to AbleCommerce e-commerce platform. We also have a fully dedicated server which we have full control over and can customize for anything we plan on for the future. Customization was a big feature we looked at when we were shopping around for platforms. We don’t sell 1000s of products so we don’t require a cookie cutter store with the ability to quickly deploy 100s of products – which I might note that Able does do very well. Instead we needed a platform we could mold to fit our newly designed sales pages. This is where the new platform really sets itself apart from many of the others we looked at. While sitting on top of Able we’ve been able to code our pages to look unlike the majority e-stores out there.

There are many other changes on the site including the unveiling of our new inclusion of Transcender Quiz Applications with our training and a new and improved training lineup which now includes Windows Server 2008 training courses and newly organized Windows Server 2003/2000 training. This site will be treated differently than our site has ever been treated in the past. It is an living organism that will continue to grow and improve. I look forward to working with our customers and training audience to deliver the best computer training site available.

Now onto gary.eimerman.com – as you’ve probably noticed, I flipped over to a new theme. The old one was too dark and cluttered. I still need to do some improvements to this theme, but I’m already a fan of it…What do you think? If anyone wants to design a new header for the site I’d be more than happy to promote your services or barter with you for some network administration, computer consulting work. Art has never been my forte. I hope that I improved the usability of the site as well. The embedded wmv files are gone and have been replaced with a Silverlight based media player that should prevent the videos from automatically loading no matter what browser you’re using. I’ve noticed a couple of times where the pages have displayed funky or the videos wouldn’t necessarily display correctly. If you are consistently having this issue please let me know it’s not just a fluke and I’ll see what improvements I can make.

Overall, just keep your eyes open for ever improvements on both this site and www.trainsignal.com and give me feedback.
